Sometimes it is easy for the internet marketer to get caught up in “the latest thing.”  New fads and techniques become popular, and some SEO professionals send too much time and effort chasing these new techniques, instead of relying on what they know works.

Creating content is just as important today as it has ever been.  The term “content is king” has never been untrue in the world of SEO and internet marketing.  Google places a huge amount of value in pages of text content that are informative, optimized, and themed with the rest of your website.  No type of website is exempt from this.  Articles about proper men’s suit care on an Online Suit Store is just as important as articles on the benefits of tax representation on a Tax Settlement firm’s website.

As a general rule of thumb, the more content added to a website, the better, however there are a few techniques to note as you are implementing the content to make it work the best for you, and get the most mileage out of the content SEO-wise as possible.

1.) Make sure the content is relevant to your website.  If you are running a sporting goods store, you might be tempted to divert from the core of your business when content writing to post other sports-related articles, such as current news in the world of sports, statistics, playoff standings, etc.  While articles such as this certainly won’t harm your rankings, the time and effort used to create them could be better used towards a more focused topic pertaining specifically to sporting goods.  Proper tennis racket care, Choosing the right snowboard for your body type, hunting rifle handling tips, these are the type of articles that will focus more on the types of keywords you need in your content.

2.) Each article should have its own URL on your site.  Avoid lumping multiple articles together on the same page.  Maximize your keywords by creating a seperate page for each article and a static URL including the keywords for your article.  For example, your article about  tennis racket care might have a URL of http://www.examplesportsstore.com/tennis_racket_care.html.

3.) Create hyperlinks to each article that is created on the footer site map of each page on your site.  This helps internal linking, and also helps your articles’ content to be indexed by Google and the other search engines.

Remember, you can never have enough text content on your website as long as it includes your targeted keywords!  Maximize your time and effort with articles that have good keyword density and are featured on seperate, optimized URLs.
